Today (17th December) 111 yrs ago the Wright brothers experienced their first powered flight. It lasted 120 seconds Right now I am at an airport watching jet powered planes land every minute.
Progress happens, and the progress also accelerates.
Before commercial flying it would have taken up to 2 weeks to get from Southampton to New York by ship…… It now takes 7 hrs. – progress.
Before email we would have sent letter instead of taking days/weeks to get a response. A response is now possible in minutes. – progress.
Before video calling I would have only been able to see my family in South Africa once a year for a day or two. Now it is easy to chat to them and see facial expressions and get a grasp of their lives, daily if needs be. – progress.
So there will be progress in the world! And it will accelerate in its pace. So will you be a person to grab the good bits of progress? (there are definitely bad bits of progress), or will you be the person to strain and resist and get frustrated by the inevitable moving forward of the human race?
How has progress affected the spread of the Gospel? Is technology and speed good or bad for the advancing of the Kingdom of God?
